My Teaching
Teaching Philosophy |
My goal as a teacher is to create an environment where my students take ownership for their learning, the content is relevant, and they leave more prepared for their future. The way I will teach is largely influenced by constructivist approaches and William Glasser’s Choice Theory while incorporating 21st Century Skills. I believe that science is meant to bring us a greater understanding of the world around us. I recognize that many of my students might not enter a scientific career, so I view a successful classroom as one that gives students the tools necessary to be prosperous and informed members of their community.

Classroom Management
My proactive approach to classroom management is founded in three core expectations: be respectful, be prepared, and be responsible. These expectations will be communicated clearly at the beginning of the year and shown by example throughout the remainder of the year. When discipline issues occur, students will have the opportunity to take responsibility for their actions and to make things right again.
Classroom Management Plan
To the right is a classroom management plan that I developed during an education course at the University of Mary. It provides further insight into my classroom management and contains examples of some of my favorite procedures that I will use in the classroom.
